What is the difference between HydraFacial Syndeo and the older machines?
Syndeo is the HydraFacial system The Beauty Health Company introduced in the US in March 2022 and later brought to other markets. The name means "connected" in Greek, and that word describes most of what is new. The maker's launch material lists cloud software that keeps a client's preferences and treatment history, even across locations and providers, plus hands free controls and an LED light attachment.
The previous generation, named as Elite in trade coverage of the launch, did not have that data layer. This article compares Syndeo with Elite because Elite is the older system the maker and the trade press actually name. Earlier systems have carried other names over the years, and descriptions of them by resellers could not be confirmed against the manufacturer, so they are left out.
What did Syndeo add?
- Connected software. A treatment is logged and the history is recalled next time, which lets the person doing the treatment see what was used before.
- Gesture controls. The operator moves between treatment steps with little physical contact with the machine, which the trade press describes as a hygiene gain.
- A smart sensor tray. It displays the chosen serums on screen and reads genuine HydraFacial products.
- An LED attachment. The launch release names an integrated LightStim Elipsa light therapy device used hands free, and the trade press describes a foldable dome light.
- A lymphatic function. The manufacturer's page lists lymphatic therapy as a feature of Syndeo.
- On-screen guidance for each step. Useful for keeping steps consistent.
Each item on this list is from the maker or from trade press repeating the maker. None is an independently measured improvement in skin outcomes.
What stayed the same?
The treatment. The maker's launch material says the core treatment steps are kept, and its own device page says Elite provides the same proprietary Vortex-Fusion technology with a range of feature sets. A swirling vortex tip lifts debris out of the pore and lays a serum into the cleared space, in one pass. The mechanism, and the limits that come with it, are set out in what a HydraFacial actually does, and what it cannot.
It still works on the surface. Pigmentation held in deeper layers, acne scars and sagging sit beyond what any HydraFacial system reaches, whichever model delivers it. A newer machine does not move those limits.
Does a connected machine give a better result?
The sources checked do not show that. None of the material found compares the two on hydration, congestion or any skin measure, and the maker does not claim it.
What a connected system plausibly improves is continuity. If a record shows what was used, how the skin responded and when, the next session can start from facts. That benefit depends entirely on someone reading the record and acting on it. It also raises a fair patient question: who can see your treatment history, and where is it stored? That is worth asking at any clinic using cloud software.
What does it mean for a patient comparing clinics?
A clinic running an earlier HydraFacial system still delivers the same vortex based treatment. The model name is one input, and the assessment is another. Judging a clinic by the generation of its machine would be a poor shortcut.
The Retreat Clinic has used the HydraFacial Syndeo system since 2024. It is a newer machine, and every HydraFacial at the clinic sits inside a skin plan Dr Ong has assessed, with settings and serums adjusted to the skin rather than run as a fixed script. The sessions are carried out by qualified therapists certified by HydraFacial, and every session includes LED light therapy with the LightStim Elipsa; lymphatic drainage is available as an add-on. Whether a facial belongs in the plan at all, and how often, is decided there, as covered in how often to have a HydraFacial. How the treatment compares with a regular facial, and who should skip it, is in HydraFacial or a regular facial.
Three fair questions if you are choosing: what is the skin assessment before treatment, which serums and settings will be used for my skin and why, and which extras such as LED or lymphatic work, if any, are actually part of the plan. The model name tells you what the machine can do. The answers tell you what will be done.
What every HydraFacial at The Retreat Clinic includes
- A skin plan assessed by Dr Ong. The doctor sees the skin first, and the session sits inside his plan, with the settings and serums chosen for that skin.
- The full HydraFacial Syndeo treatment. Cleansing and exfoliation, extraction, and hydration with a serum infused into the skin, on the Syndeo system the clinic has used since 2024.
- LED light therapy with the LightStim Elipsa. A dome-shaped LED light that sits over the face, hands free, in every session.
- Qualified therapists certified by HydraFacial. Every session is carried out by therapists trained and certified by HydraFacial.
Each of these is part of every HydraFacial session at the clinic, rather than an add-on chosen separately. Lymphatic drainage, the suction-based drainage step built into the HydraFacial system, is available as an add-on; what it does and does not do is in lymphatic drainage facial: what it actually does.
